Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts to become an established star failed. Two labels signed her but removed her from the market before she'd made any music. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The track that was the title song was a fun and playful track that received little interest. I Kissed a Girl - an ode of sexual curiosity - was released several months after. It featured a hard electro-pop sound, and had a strong stance. This song sparked controversy, and some critics accused that it promoted homosexual relationships, and some saying that the sexually explicit situation depicted in the song was intended to cater to men's fantasies. I Kissed a Girl was an instant hit on Perry's album One of the Boys in 2008, thanks to the combination of sexual enthusiasm and polished melodicism. Hot N Cold, Perry's bouncy and sharply-tongued album with its second hit single also was a hit. The album Perry wrote by herself sold more than 3 million copies.
